Witnesses Describe Fiery Crash, Victims Airlifted to Hospital
A small plane crashed in a Shakopee park on Saturday afternoon, injuring two people, according to authorities.
The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. at Lions Park, located near the intersection of 10th Avenue and Marschall Road. Witnesses reported seeing the plane flying low before it suddenly crashed into a wooded area.
Victims Airlifted to Hospital
The two occupants of the plane, a man and a woman, were injured in the crash. They were airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center, where they are being treated for their injuries. Their conditions are not yet known.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the cause of the crash. The FAA said the plane was a single-engine Cessna 172.
Witnesses Describe Fiery Crash
Witnesses described seeing a trail of smoke and flames as the plane crashed. Some reported hearing an explosion.
"I saw the plane flying really low, and then it just suddenly went down," said Michael Johnson, who was walking in the park at the time of the crash. "There was a lot of smoke and flames. It was really scary."
Another witness, Sarah Jones, said she saw the plane hit the ground and burst into flames.
"It was awful," Jones said. "I can't believe anyone survived that."
FAA Investigating Cause of Crash
The FAA is investigating the cause of the crash. The agency said it will be looking at the plane's maintenance history, the pilot's experience, and the weather conditions at the time of the crash.
The FAA said it could take several months to complete the investigation.
