Hacks Stars Mom And Former Snl Cast Member Slams The Bear Says Its Not A Comedy

'Hacks' Star's Mom and Former 'SNL' Cast Member Slams 'The Bear,' Says It's Not a Comedy

Mom and former 'SNL' cast member slams son-in-law's new show 'The Bear,' calls it 'not a comedy'

The mother of "Hacks" star Hannah Einbinder and former "Saturday Night Live" cast member Laraine Newman has slammed her son-in-law's new show, "The Bear," calling it "not a comedy."

Newman, who was a cast member on "SNL" from 1975 to 1980, took to Twitter on Monday to express her disappointment with the show, which stars her son-in-law, Jeremy Allen White.

"I watched the first episode of 'The Bear' and I was so disappointed," Newman tweeted. "It's not a comedy. It's a drama. And it's not even a good drama."

Newman said she was expecting the show to be funny, given White's comedic background.

“I thought it would be funny, because Jeremy is so funny,” Newman said. “But it wasn't funny at all. It was just depressing.”

Newman also criticized the show's portrayal of mental illness. She said that the show's main character, Carmy Berzatto (played by White), is clearly struggling with mental health issues, but the show doesn't do a good job of addressing them.

"I think it's important to talk about mental health issues, but I don't think 'The Bear' does a good job of it," Newman said. "It just kind of glosses over them."

Newman's criticism of 'The Bear' has sparked a debate on social media. Some people agree with her assessment of the show, while others say that she is entitled to her opinion.

What do you think? Is "The Bear" a comedy or a drama? Do you think it does a good job of portraying mental health issues?
