Biden's Withdrawal Offers Unfulfilling Vindication
Representative from Minnesota's 3rd congressional district
Dean Phillips, the multi-millionaire heir to one of America's largest liquor dynasties, suspended his campaign for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination. Once considered a long-shot bid, his withdrawal comes after President Biden announced his own re-election campaign.
Phillips, a former gelato tycoon, was the first Democrat to represent Minnesota's Third Congressional District. His campaign focused on issues of economic inequality, climate change, and gun violence.
In a statement, Phillips said that he was "deeply disappointed" to end his campaign but that he believed it was the right decision. He praised Biden's leadership and said that he would continue to support the president in any way he could.
Phillips' withdrawal leaves the Democratic field with a crowded field of candidates, including former Vice President Joe Biden, Senator Bernie Sanders, and Senator Elizabeth Warren.
